ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to evaluate the non market benefit of forest resources in Ovia North East local Government of Edo State, Nigeria. The objective of the study was to identify the non-market benefits of forest resources, estimate use of non-market benefits, determine various method of evaluation, and access the benefits available to the evaluation method in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Twenty percent sampling intensity was used to randomly select 10 communities from the Local Government Area. A sampling intensity of 0.3% was used to randomly select 310 respondents from the total population of individual community in the study area.  Data was collected using open, close questionnaires and interview. The data were analyzed using Frequency Distribution, Percentage, Tables, Anova. Results showed that landscaping and carbon sequestration was the dominant non market benefit of forest resources in the study area. 

It also showed that the non-market benefits of forest resources are useful, 84.2% of the respondent affirming this. Result also indicates that non- market forest resources is available in the study area, majority of the respondents affirmed that. As people are gradually getting aware of the non market benefit of forest resource which is also source to the communities. The result also showed that government policy is the major problem that strongly affects the availability of non market forest resources in the study area. Thus reducing of the availability of non market forest resources and even the marketable forest resources. It also showed that non market benefit of forest resources is accessible in the study area according to the indigenous people. It was also agreed by the respondents that non - market benefit of forest resource can be estimated due to the availability of the resources.      TABLE OF CONTENTS
